TESTIMONIALS

Way back in high school, before my first tutor session with Aisha, I struggled with my academics. I had worked with other tutors before Aisha, but I always found that the skills I gained would quickly fade. On top of that, at best, before working with Aisha, tutor sessions would help me perform better on a single assignment, but never in a subject as a whole.

Once I started working with Aisha, everything changed. Both during high-school and later during my undergraduate degree, Aisha helped me with a wide range of assignments in English, Math, and Science. Sure, sometimes I would start a lesson feeling unsure and confused. However, I would always leave Aisha’s lessons with a more complete understanding of material and with a greater ability to independently address my own questions. After working with Aisha, my grades markedly increased. This effect was felt beyond the subjects that I worked on with Aisha. The effect was a global one.

Aisha’s lessons were unique in that they were tailored to meet my needs. For the most part, I learned material more quickly and at a deeper level when I could see how the material fit into a larger picture. Aisha was one of the few teachers who taught me things by both outlining ideas in detail and by situating ideas in broader contexts. Strangely enough, I also found that in other subjects, larger pictures would do nothing more than distract me. To understand ideas from such subjects, all I needed was a lesson that would zoom into material insofar that I could examine the logic at the idea’s core. Aisha provided me with such lessons as well.

Frankly, it is a bit embarrassing to say, but there were also times that all I really needed to succeed was the confidence to address questions on my own and the guidance to become more organized. By encouraging me to challenge ideas and to really engage with material, Aisha helped me in those areas too. Those lesson were subtle, yet extremely effective. Those lessons, the ones which were too great to be captured with words – ineffable- are the ones that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Concretely, Aisha helped me excel in my courses, Graduate Record Examination (GRE), and in editing my Statement of Intent. But on a more abstract level, Aisha’s lessons instilled in me the skills and confidence that I needed to be able to reach for the stars and land in the Graduate program of my dreams. Most importantly, Aisha’s lessons instilled in me the skills needed to challenge myself and grow independently thereafter.

I worked with Aisha during both of my first year Physics courses at the University of Guelph. I struggled very much with the subject (even throughout high school), and the transition to university was such an overwhelming time, but Aisha was an amazing resource to have.

At first I was a little skeptical about online tutoring, yet Aisha facilitated lessons with such ease and accommodated my schedule with remarkable flexibility. She was also very understanding if I had to reschedule sessions or was not able to complete the portion of work we had planned for. This often relieved stress around my constantly changing, jam-packed university agenda.

Aisha is a very patient teacher, with an immense amount of knowledge and academic ability. Throughout the two semesters I worked with her, I was repeatedly amazed at her ability to understand and solve almost any subject or problem given in my course content.

Personally, I learn best from having concepts directly explained to me, and then working through example problems and being able to ask questions about things that confuse me. Aisha was able to adapt her teaching techniques by delivering lessons that were based around my professor’s lecture slides and allowing me to work through practice questions on my own. When I got stuck she was able to explain problems in great detail, ensuring I understood every step of the way and was more than willing to clarify as many times as needed, while finding new approaches, until I had a full grasp on the concept.

A teaching service Aisha provided that I found to be extremely helpful, as well as unique when compared to other available tutors, was her extensive Lab and Exam preparation. Both of these types of assessments heavily contributed towards my final grade, but working with Aisha increased the confidence I felt in myself and my ability to problem solve. If we arrived at different answers while working on practice problems together Aisha would encourage me to disagree with her answer and advocate for my own. This allowed me to understand content better as I was able to analyze how I came to a conclusion and identify areas where I made errors, both of which strengthened my knowledge when attempting future challenges. Not only did I have this sense of confidence for my final Exams, but also for the courses I continue to take now and for the rest of my degree.

Overall Aisha is an exceptional tutor, she offers a one of a kind teaching experience that enhances a student’s ability to learn, and I strongly recommend her services to anyone struggling in their area of study.

My time working with Aisha was beneficial beyond words! She helped me with a 3rd year Chemistry Engineering course and a Comparative Biochemistry course, which covered very different topics. She was able to understand my learning style and tailor her lessons to meet my needs.

One method that I found very helpful was the organized OneNote that Aisha made for all of our online lessons, which I could refer back to on my own time. I would email Aisha all lecture slides from my classes and she made a section in the OneNote corresponding to each topic. We worked together to discuss which topics I was struggling with and therefore needed to prioritize. I found her online diagrams to be extremely helpful for me with my Main Group Chemistry course when drawing out specific diagrams, especially because I am a visual learner.

Another technique that strongly improved my understanding was going through problem sets from my professors or exam banks with Aisha. To best suit my needs, we would take time individually to answer the questions, and then come together to compare answers. This allowed for in depth conversations, especially when we had different answers. Aisha encouraged me to explain why I answered in a specific way, allowing me to truly test my knowledge. When I was able to explain my reasoning behind an answer sufficiently, it showed that I felt confident in this topic. Prior to working with Aisha, I would have simply selected an answer and moved on, without questioning what made that response correct.

Further, not only did Aisha help me immensely with course content, but she also helped me with creating study schedules. It was extremely helpful to devote a session to making a plan of action for exam studying. Being able to see exactly when we would cover each topic eased a lot of my stress about potentially not finishing our content. Also, when planning, Aisha left lots of room for leeway in case personal life or other courses interfered, which was another helpful strategy.

If I came to lessons stressed, Aisha quickly picked up on this and would give me several options of what we could do; we could either just make a study plan, both plan and study, or just study. On a similar note, Aisha was such a strong support for me, both academically and emotionally. It was always incredibly clear how much she cares about her students and their mental health as well as their understanding of course material. She is extremely understanding when it comes to the stress and burnout students commonly experience, thus she strongly encourages taking breaks.

It was so helpful to have someone remind me that I will actually do better in my studies if I give myself breaks. This was especially important for me when I felt so overwhelmed with school I didn’t know where to begin. Aisha always made it clear to me that if we had to miss a lesson or two for me to feel less stressed, this would benefit me and would not erase all of the progress we had already made! In addition, when we agreed on missing a previously scheduled lesson due to personal reasons, I always came to our next session much more prepared and in a great headspace

Overall, the two courses Aisha and I worked on felt incredibly daunting when I attended the first few lectures, and Aisha helped me to end the semester feeling extremely confident. This was extremely obvious in my Chemical Engineering course which covered a lot of content I had never been exposed to. Aisha was able to incorporate general knowledge about physics and linear algebra to give me a very strong understanding of this previously foreign content.

I began the semester overwhelmed and lost in lectures, but my time with Aisha made such a drastic difference. I know that I am taking so much more than course specific knowledge from our lessons; I have learned how to prioritize myself and my mental health, how to work more efficiently instead of cramming, and the importance of planning when feeling overwhelmed. I couldn’t recommend Aisha more for ANY course you may need help in; she is so versatile in her teaching styles and I can thank her for so much of my academic success.
